Cantors lead song at nearly all liturgies. Some also perform as soloists at weddings and funerals.
Participation at liturgies is flexible. Cantors submit dates and times of liturgies at which they would like to lead song. Most often, these requests are honored; consequently, a cantor may be scheduled as few or as many times in a two-month cycle as desired.
On rare occasions, a meeting may be held to discuss musical or liturgical concerns, innovations, or other issues.
Although most cantors provide their own transportation to services, arrangements could be made for chauffeuring to church.
Most cantors can read music and have the necessary vocal qualifications to function effectively as a leader of song. A schedule of repertoire and corresponding packets of new music is received one month prior to each Church season. Most cantors pray and prepare for each liturgy individually, but rehearsals or tapes of specific music are available when the need arises.
