In First Holy Communion (the "Sacrament of Love," as Pope Francis calls it), children receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. It is always such a special day.
Children at St. John Chrysostom typically celebrate First Communion in second grade, although we understand that families may have special needs that require other circumstances. Please contact our Parish Religious Education Program as soon as possible to discuss any special needs. PREP oversees sacramental preparation for all parish children, regardless of their school.
Note to our PREP Parents: PREP begins in first grade, as required
by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Children must be enrolled every year
from grades 1 to 7 to complete their sacraments as scheduled.
Grades may not be skipped, and extended absences may delay your child's sacraments. Children who take time off of PREP will resume where they left off.
