Lectors are called and trained to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel, at weekend and daily Masses and on Holy Days of Obligation. They also announce the Introduction and Focus before Mass begins.
In the absence of a deacon, lectors may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, at Masses without a cantor, recite the Psalm between the readings.
At St. John's, the Junior Lector ministry welcomes youths in grades five through eight. The adult Lector ministry begins with young adults in ninth grade.
Schedule:
After initial training, lectors are scheduled every four to five weeks.
They may also attend occasional refresher training.
