It is essential that all forms of the liturgy be completely accessible
to persons with disabilities, since these forms are the essence
of the spiritual tie that binds the Christian community together.
Guidelines for the Celebration of the Sacraments
with Persons with Disabilities (USCCB, 2017)
St. John Chryostom wants all of our parishioners and guests to participate
fully in the sacraments, in our ministries, and in the life of our parish.
We strive to be a faith community where all feel truly at home.
Please see the resources and accommodations we currently offer,
and please contact us at any time for any needs not addressed here.
Our Church. The Providence Road entrance to our church is flat and wheelchair accessible;
the right entry door has an electronic opener. An ADA-compliant restroom is immediately to the left of the vestibule. The front parking lot is reserved for handicapped parking.
American Sign Language. ASL interpreters serve at 10 am on the first and third Sundays
of each month and on Christmas, Palm Sunday and Easter.
Assistive Listening Technology. The church is equipped with a state-of-the-art assistive listening system for individuals with hearing impairment, whether or not they use a hearing aid. This lower-powered FM station operates much like a car radio. The audio is installed in our sound system, amplifies all microphones, and broadcasts wirelessly to a small receiver that you can clip on or slip in a pocket. We also offer Neckloop Telecoil Couplers for use with a hearing aid. Please ask in the sacristy before Mass for any of these devices. Health note: All systems are sanitized after use, but you may wish to bring your own earbuds for use with the receiver.
In addition, the main Confessional to the left of the altar is equipped with an easy-to-use amplified telephone system for anyone who finds it difficult to hear, or be heard, in Confession.
Braille Mass Guides. Readings and the other Mass Propers in Braille, published by the Xavier Society for the Blind, are available in the Sacristy. Please inquire there or ask an usher before Mass.
Low-Gluten Hosts. Low-gluten Hosts are always available. Please stop in the Sacristy before Mass to advise us.
St. John Chrysostom is honored to remember your loved ones with the dedication of a Mass, Sanctuary Candle, or Bread and Wine.
